Fasts.

WTF!?! I understand, but I don't believe in, the praying part but what's with the fasting?

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah — Friends and family of a 28-year-old Utah mother who disappeared nearly a week ago are fasting and praying for her safe return as volunteers post thousands of fliers with her image on it.
Susan Powell was reported missing Monday under what police are calling suspicious circumstances. A prayer service attended by about 100 people was held for her on Saturday in West Valley City.
Authorities searched a desert area where husband Josh Powell says he took the couple's two young children, ages 2 and 4, camping last weekend in freezing conditions.
Josh Powell returned Monday night, after police had already received a call from relatives who had not heard from the Powell family.
He declined to answer questions from reporters Saturday.

Hey there. I think I have got it!!!! The fasting is a way of slowly commiting suicide which would be considered acceptable and even highly pious by religious zealots the world over, these people are grieving and have signed up for a mass suicide pact with the intention of still making it to heaven and glory.

- Or I might be way off the 8 ball.

Hey there he is and with a wonderfully pithy comment.
I certainly do my best. Is it the terseness of my reintroduction to the internet world and your excellent blog that has you flabbergasted. Hehe. Cheers!
I really like the way you think, it must be fun to live inside your head! LOL
Oh believe me, it is all the rage. I have all these little people living in there. A bit like the devil and angel charicatures, except they are not vaguely meaningful, the just flit around enjoying themselves. And now I seem mad, wow great introduction. Check out my blog. Martin has kindly included it in his favourite blogs section in the no2religion blog. http://wsogmm42.blogspot.com and you are welcome to flit around in my thoughts. Cheers for the compliment.

Not all Aussies are insane. Smiles.
Asshole! I just spit my drink all over the place. LMFAO!

BTW Stuffed's blog is a good read.
Sorry about that, I can assure you it was never my intention. Haha. And what the hell does that acronym stand for. Cheers.
Laughing My Fucking Ass Off
Indeed. I see. I have also noticed you are catching up to me in intense debate points lol. Ps. How do you make the big quotation marks in your post? Id be forever your humble servent if you told me. Haha. Lol
Fasting has its roots in the Bible or as I call it "The Book of Hear Say".

In the Book of Esther (4:16), Esther agreed to see the King uninvited, and asked the Jewish people to fast for three days beforehand. Esther called for a fast, knowing that through soul- searching the Jews would forge a spiritual connection necessary to make her mission successful. And it paid off, for indeed the Almighty sees and hears everyone at their time of need.

There are other biblical references as well. Christians, Jews and Muslims all have traditions of fasting in their heritage as a result.

In short it's just another silly religious superstition.

It certainly would not be a good option to undertake a fast before going on a crusade or jihad though. Your army would be famished and weak. I am thinking it was a concept devised by a rival army several times over, maybe even religion as a whole was.
I bet fasting would forge a spiritual connection. I miss one meal and I get a little light headed.
Hehe, you have solved it. Nice work, it is the lack of brain functioning caused by a loss of energy and a general dizziness which causes a connection with "God" truly, truly, I think you have finally understood religion. Now if we just highjack a convention of fasting religioushites(tm) we should be able to create a connection between their otherworldy experiences and science/godlessness. Seriously I think you are onto something here - about hallucinations and so called God sightings...the sightee is not well, perhaps ill, or very hungry.
As if that'll ever happen.
I think your onto something there too...it won't happen!
I wonder if there’s any connection with Jebus appearing on grilled cheese sandwiches.

You guys are nuts!

LMAO!

Indeed John you mock the cheese sandwhich with the image of geezus implanted on its toasty crusts, or in vegiemite. But you know if you do that you are certain to confront the hellfire for mocking the lord in his struggle to be reborn as something meaningful in time for the rapture...so far he has failed when he appeared as a shit [literally], and on a burnt piece of toast and cheese...he's getting there ok. Lol.

I'd say you are right about him being nuts next time too, then he would be spot on!
You know.. I never took notice to the bible promoting Anorexia, along side of human sacrifice/murder, incest, etc.
